About OpenForecast
Current conditions, hourly and 7-day forecasts and active weather alerts for 1,923 U.S. cities in all 50 states and D.C., from the National Weather Service API.
Where the data comes from
Forecasts, hourly forecasts, station observations and alerts come from the National Weather Service (NWS) API at api.weather.gov. The NWS is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The list of cities and their coordinates come from U.S. Census Bureau population estimates and Gazetteer files.
Data: National Weather Service (NWS), part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), via api.weather.gov; city list and coordinates from the U.S. Census Bureau (Vintage 2024 population estimates and 2024 Gazetteer files). These agencies do not endorse OpenForecast. Not an official source of warnings — check weather.gov and local authorities.
How fresh it is
Every page is built from a stored snapshot of NWS data, and the page says when that snapshot was taken. When you open a page, your browser also asks api.weather.gov for the newest forecast, observation and alerts and shows them in place of the snapshot. If that request fails, you see the snapshot and its time.
Not an official warning service
OpenForecast is an independent site. For official warnings, check weather.gov and your local authorities, and follow instructions from emergency officials.
